Our Lacrosse Family Suffers A Loss
 -

Harvey and Sharon Stoler and Raymond and Sharon Shortino will be remembered later this week when family and friends assemble to share stories and celebrate the lives of four people who loved each other and the game of lacrosse. Last Friday, the four long-time friends were on the way back from watching family members and their friends play in the Lake Placid tournament when the private plane, flown by Ray Shortino, crashed shortly after take off from the Adirondack Regional Airport.Stolers at HOF

Harvey Stoler was a "life-long" fan of lacrosse, as a player, a coach and an official over many years. He was inducted into the Rochester Chapter Hall of Fame in 2007. Both he and his wife, Sharon (who worked in the Penfield guidance office for many years) were well known in the Penfield lacrosse scene and enjoyed watching their children and their grandchildren play the game.

Ray and Sharon Shortino also were long-time Penfield lacrosse enthusiasts, raising three sons. The family was very involved in the local lacrosse scene.

The families sent out a joint statement over the weekend thanking people for their support. "There has been a tremendous outpouring of love from many communities, and it has brought us great comfort in our loss," they said. "Our parents were traveling together to be with their families to enjoy the game that brought them together over 35 years ago. They were longstanding friends and well respected within our community."

The Penfield twitter account posted: "A dark cloud has been cast over our Penfield Lax Family. With great sadness we are left speechless. #onefamily."

Section Five has, indeed lost some special friends who were always ready to support the lacrosse world. They will be missed, but they will continue to live on through the lives of their children, grandchildren and so many friends who knew them.
