Catching Up on Summer Events

Sweetlax Fairport Head Coach Mike Torrelli and Pittsford rising junior midfielder Colby Barker were invited to participate in the "Nike Ride" and elite showcase for fifty top players. In its third year it features "the nation’s top lacrosse athletes squaring off during a week of unparalleled competition, training and mentorship. Over the four days they were treated to the best of Nike, learned from guest speakers that included the Thompson brothers and played games near the Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon.

Barker's team, which was coached by Coach Torrelli, won the tournament and Colby, with his partner, Colby Smith, won the skill competition.

The Sweetlax Lacrosse Club has been busy and winning tournaments this summer. The FLG-in-3D (for the Love of the Game) Summer shootout held in Maryland for seven age groups. The 2016 team (6-0) beat the Colorado Select team to win their Championship. Named to the All-Star Teams were John Perotto (Pittsford-a), Max Eismann (Irondequoit-g) and Jack Callahan (Victor-LSM-d). The 2017 team (4-1) won their championship game with an 8-6 victory over the Fighting Clams. Matt Knope and Max Wagner coached the team.

Also named to the All-Star Teams and playing FCA were David York (Canandaigua-def) and Blake Balcaen (Schroeder-att).

The 2016 Sweetlax team won the first Liberty Bell Challenge in early July. The two day event was held at Germantown Academy (PA). Forty-seven Division III and twenty-eight Division I schools were represented and looking for talent at the tournament "giving each team and player the opportunity to find out what it means to be 'Philly tough'".
