May 12, 2015 - This week there is a senior goalie from Hilton and a pair of attackmen from Victor and Spencerport as Players of the Week. Jared Kimble is the defensive POW and Ryan Maloney (Victor) and Colin McElligott (Spencerport) are the offensive Player of the Week recipients.
Defensive Player of the Week Jared Kimble
A four year goalie for the Cadets, Jarod Kimble added to his career stats when he scored his first assist in his game with Tully. He currently has 440 saves and 2,093 minutes in the goal. After his graduation this spring he will be going to the University of Indianapolis.
Hilton Head Coach Dave Moore is proud of his player: "Jarod is a dynamic player that countless times throughout this season and his career has made saves that have left players and spectator speechless. He has been an integral part of our defense, but it was extremely evident in our three games this past week. He ended up with 15 saves in a 1 goal win over Brighton, 20 in a 1 goal win and 16 in a 2 goal win vs Tully. We are 4-1 in 1 goal games this season and it is due to his play."
Offensive Player of the Week Ryan Maloney
Junior attackman Ryan Maloney had a big day in a big game last week when Victor on the game with Pittsford in the battle of the unbeaten's. Both his shots on goal resulted in scores and he added three assists including the game winner in overtime. He currently has 118 career points. and has added to the scorebook in twelve games for the Blue Devils. He has committed to Cornell after graduation in 2016.
Victor Head Coach says: "As an Attackmen, Ryan Maloney has a very diverse skill set. Ryan is an excellent ball handler and finisher, and at the same time he uses his knowledge of the game to play very well off ball to help the entire offense have success."
Offensive Player of the Week Colin McElligott
Playing on the Ranger Varsity since eighth grade, Colin McElligott has a three career record of 70g-114a including 74 points this year. The junior attackman is also headed to the University of Indianapolis after graduation next year.
Spencerport Head Coach Tim Britton says: Through fourteen games of the 2015 season, he leads Section Five in assists. I have raised the bar very high for this young man, and he responds game after game. He embraces the opportunity to lead, and is a significant piece of our offensive unit."
Each week a small committee of SportsFive.NET staff members and some Section Five Lacrosse Committee members will create and review review nominations from coaches, players and fans and pick one offensive and one defensive player who have excelled in a game or games during the season.
The award winners will receive a commemorative shirt and will featured on the SportsFive.NET web site.
