  Half the games today were close and exciting games. Gananda beat Waterloo by a goal, Canandaigua outscored Penn Yan 3-1 in the last quarter top win by a goal. Hilton defeated Churchville-Chili by one goal at home. McQuaid Jesuit beat Watertown in overtime. Bloomfield-Honeoye beat Avon 8-7 and Irondequoit was a 9-7 winner over Spencerport. Other winners today included Midlakes, Penfield, Pittsford, Livonia, Victor, Brighton and Thomas.

Churchville at Hilton

--  Notes After losing to Churchville-Chili by a single goal last season (10-9), Hilton took their revenge with a 13-12 win today. In one of four single goal games the Cadets scored the final two goals to secure the victory. Penalties were a major factor in tonight's contest with Hilton scoring on 3/3 opportunities. Hilton took their first lead of the game on their final goal with 2:08 remaining in the contest.

Churchville-Chili scored four of the first five goals to take a 4-1 lead with 2:57 remaining in the opening quarter. Jason Tebo, Cameron Shipley and Joey Johnson (2g) scored the four opening goals for the Saints. Zeus Doser scored the lone Cadet goal. Hilton kept up the pressure going into the final two minutes of the quarter to added two goals and make it a one goal game at the end quarter. Justin Goodrich and Timothy Santiago scored with the Goodrich also assisting the latter.

Churchville-Chili started off the second quarter with back to back goals from Ryan Cosgrove. He was the leading scorer for the Saints with 4g-2a. The teams battled back and forth with Churchville-Chili holding a three goal lead. They alternated goals until the end of the second when Hilton scored back to back to keep it a one goal game going into halftime. The final two goals were both scored during man-up plays with Hunter Duford and Shawn Kimble scoring. Kimble was the leading scorer for the Cadets with 3g-1a.

The teams continued their back and forth scoring with Cosgrove and Lucas Blaszyk scoring for Churchville-Chili and Kimble and Zakk Mount scoring for Hilton. Hilton tied the game for the first time since 1-1 with a goal from Goodrich to Colin Simmons with 3:01 remaining in the third quarter. The quarter ended with the score tied 10-10.

Cosgrove scored his final goal in man-up to start off the final quarter. He was assisted by Johnson. Three minutes later Pal Burns scored his lone goal for the Cadets to keep the game tied. Corey Yunker scored an unassisted goal with 4:05 remaining to give the Saints their last lead of the game. The final tying goal was scored by Goodrich with an assist from Duford with 2:44 remaining. Less than a minute later, Duford scored (unassisted) to secure the win for the Cadets.

In the cage for Churchville-Chili, Matt Cobb recorded five saves. Face off midfielder Dan Bonafede finished at 65% for the Saints (17/26). He also led with 15 ground balls. Tebo added seven and defenseman Anthony Brumsted and attackman Lucas Blaszyk added three each. For Hilton, Jarod Kimble finished 54% (14 saves). He led the Cadets with nine ground balls. Kimble added another five.

--  Notes In a game of scoring runs, Gananda held off the advances of Waterloo to secure a 10-9 win over the Indians. Although the game was only tied once (5-5) and the Blue Panthers never trailed, it was close to the buzzer with Waterloo scoring with 0:29 remaining to pull within a single goal.

Gananda scored the first four goals with Nick Rapp and Joe Fisher each scoring two goals and assisting a third. Kyle Lotz (last year's assists and points leader for the Indians) returned for his first game of the season and recorded 4g-1a. At the conclusion of the first quarter, Gananda led 4-1. Waterloo was a much different team in the second quarter. Riley Palmer scored the first goal of the quarter for the Blue Panthers with 8:03 remaining. They were then held scoreless for the next 15:36 spanning into the third quarter.

Waterloo scored four goals to tie the game at 5-5. Lotz added two more along with two from Adam Jensen. The tying goal was scored with 6:04 remaining in the third quarter. Gananda scored the last two goals of the third quarter to re-take a two goal lead. Fisher and Patrick Shanley scored for the Blue Panthers (assists from Palmer and Dylan Joy). Gananda led 7-5 going into the final quarter.

Lotz scored his final goal to opening the fourth. Kyle Lombardozzi (assisted by Fisher) scored back to back goals for the Blue Panthers to increase their lead to three. Both goals came with Fisher assisted Lombardozzi from behind the cage. Unassisted goals from Brandon Balder and Nicholas Stenberg kept the game at a one goal game. The final two goals were scored by Palmer (Gananda) and Patrick Sobus (Waterloo).

In the cage for Gananda, Justin Anken finished with four recorded saves. Joy led in the ground all count with 11 and face-off midfielder Remmy Glod added 10. Glod finished at 77% for the face-off draw. For Waterloo, Mark Campbell recorded 18 saves. Campbell was a key player for the Indians with a number of point-blank saves which kept them in the game.

--  Notes Irondequoit kept their winning streak against Spencerport alive with a 7-5 win over the Rangers. Over the past 10 years the Eagles have won all five games against the Rangers. In today's contest, Irondequoit scored the first three goals and held a minimum two goal advantage throughout. The largest gap came in the fourth quarter when they led 7-3.

--  Notes Schroeder kept pace with Clarence (of Section VI) four three quarters until the Red Devils pulled away with four unanswered goals in the final quarter. The Warriors scored the final two goals but it was not enough as Clarence won 9-7. Schroeder had six different players make the scorebook.

Balcaen and defenseman Patrick Donnelly finished with four ground balls each to lead the Warriors. Andrew Rye finished (4/8) at the face off draw (50%). Between the pipes, Austin DeMar also finished at 50% with nine saves. Although we don't have a roster for Clarence, we know their scoring came from four players and their face-off midfielder finished at an impressive 8/10.

Penn Yan at Canandaigua

--  Notes  It was an exciting game at Canandaigua as the youth players welcomed the Varsity team, led by the drums, to Exhibition Field. Canandaigua scored the first two goals and at one point led 4-1, which was the biggest difference in the game. The quarter ended with the Braves up 4-2. Penn Yan scored first in the second quarter and then matched CA goal for goal for rest of the quarter. Canandaigua led 6-5 at the half.

The Mustangs scored two goals in the third and had their only lead of the game when the ended the quarter up 7-6. The Braves scored the first three goals of the last quarter, leading 9-7 with 2:49 left in the game. Penn Yan scored from the next face off and although they had a chance for the tying goal, sophomore goalie Brandon Moore made a critical save for the Braves who has control of the finals seconds of the game.
