-- Waterloo Head Coach Matt Morrin says: "Nick Stenberg played an exceptional game at the defensive mid-field position for the Indians."
-- Gananda took their first lead of the game with 7:22 remaining in the fourth quarter and then held off the advances of Wayne to defeat the Screaming Eagles 9-8. The game was tied four times and Wayne led three times in the first three quarters. This is Wayne's second loss by only a single goal (with an earlier 7-6 loss to Aquinas). Gananda used three man-up opportunities to secure the victory.
Wayne opened up the game's scoring with four of the first five goals. Jake Moss scored unassisted at 9:01 remaining in the first quarter. Kyle Lombardozzi scored the first of his 5g-1a for the Panthers to tie the game for the first time. Lombardozzi finished with 11 shots, five on cage (all goals). Wayne took back the lead 0:22 later with a fast break goal from Eric Crumb. The face-off win was one of only three for the Screaming Eagles all day. The first quarter concluded with Wayne leading 2-1.
The Screaming Eagles scored the first two goals of the second quarter with Jack Camp scoring both. The first was unassisted and the second was assisted by Jon Ecker. Ecker finished with 3g-1a to lead his team. Wayne's largest lead of the game came at 4-1 with 6:47 left in the first half. Gananda scored the next three goals, two before the half, to tie the game. Joe Fisher and Lombardozzi scored in the second quarter. Lombardozzi scored again to open the third quarter and tie the game at 4-4. Ben Donnan assisted the first and last goal in the set. Ecker scored his first goal during man-up with 8:33 left in the third quarter. The final goal of the third quarter was scored by Fisher, and assisted by Donnan. Fisher's goal was scored during man-up and tied the game for the third time.
Gananda's first go-ahead goal was scored by Lombardozzi in another man-up opportunity. Ecker scored only 0:11 later (on their third face-off win). The Panthers scored back to back to take a two goal lead. Riley Palmer scored his first goal and Lombardozzi scored his fifth. Wayne attempted a comeback with Ecker scoring with 5:12 remaining to keep the game within a single goal. However, another man-up goal from Gananda (Fisher from Lombardozzi), put the nail in the coffin. Crumb scored the final goal for Wayne with 2:23 remaining, but they never got another shot at the cage. In the goal for Wayne, Aaron Bellinger finished with four saves.
Remmy Glod finished at 86% at the face off draw for Gananda (18/21). Defenseman Dylan Joy finished with a team leading 12 ground balls and four takes. In the cage, Justin Anken finished at 50% with eight saves.
