--  Pittsford sophomore Jonathan Perotto scored from a feed by Stephen Quinzi with 2:14 remaining in the first overtime period to defeat Victor 12-11. Perotto finished with 3g-1a and Quinzi finished with 4g-1a for the Panthers. The game was back and forth throughout with both teams leading at different points. The game was tied six times (1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 7-7, 8-8, 11-11). The Panthers held the largest lead of the game (three goals with 6:00 remaining in regulation) but the Blue Devils never gave up.

The first two quarters were basically alternated scoring. Victor opened up the scoring 0:34 into the contest with Ryan Maloney assisting Eric Haney for the goal. Pittsford`s Quinzi came back just over a minute later to tie the game. Mike DeMarco (Victor) and Ryan Fairbrother (Pittsford) scored the next pair of goals, both unassisted. With 6:30 remaining in the first quarter, the Panthers broke the alternating cycle and took their first lead of the game with an unassisted goal from Billy Cooper. DeMarco tied the game two minutes later before the Panthers added two more to finish the quarter. Pittsford led 5-3 going into the second quarter.

Pittsford at VictorThe first four goals of the second quarter alternated between the teams before Victor added three more to end the quarter and take back a one goal lead going into halftime. Luke Bartkoski (Victor) and Perotto (Pittsford) scored the first pair and Max Lambert (Victor) and Quinzi (Pittsford) scored the second pair. DeMarco scored unassisted at 3:49 followed by goals from Dan Barrow (1:29) and Alex deNormand (1:11) before the conclusion of the quarter. A major reason for Victor`s high possession time came from face off midfielder T.D. Ierlan. He finished 21/25 (84%) at the face off draw and gave Victor significant ball time. He also finished with a team leading 11 ground balls.

The Panthers scored the lone goal of the third quarter to tie the game 8-8 at the end of three quarters. Pittsford continued their pressure with the next three goals to start the fourth quarter. They led 11-8 with 6:00 remaining when Perotto assisted Owen Smith. The Blue Devils fought back in the final six minutes and scored three goals to tie the game. David Cardillo scored unassisted which was followed by Jamie Trimboli scoring his only two goals of the contest to end regulation. The game tying goal was scored unassisted by Trimboli with 2:26 remaining in regulation. Neither team took a shot after Trimboli`s goal.

In the overtime period, Ierlan won the face off and picked up his own ground ball. After the face-off defenseman Mike Perotto came up with a big one-on-one take to give Pittsford the first shot at the goal. A miss from Colby Barker (his only shot of the game) resulted in Victor having a shot at the goal. The Blue Devils got the ball to Ryan Maloney. He missed the cage, but got it back and this time Pittsford`s Kevin Maguire came up with a save. The Panthers cleared the ball and looked for their own opportunity to score. Quinzi took the ball coast to coast on the clear and found Perotto open for the game winner.

Maguire finished with 13 saves (54%) for Pittsford. Barker finished with six ground balls to lead the Panthers. Defenseman Nick Panara finished with three takes with defensemen Mike Perotto, Greg Weyl and Jared Conner added two each. For Victor, Brennan Mackey finished with nine saves. Joining Ierlan in the ground ball count were Maloney and Alec DeCarlo with four each.  return to top
