Finally, there were a number of close games played in the section today. Victor held off a last minute attack by Irondequoit to hold on to a 7-6 win. Hilton beat the Lightning 8-6, McQuaid came back hard to beat Livonia 14-13 in overtime. Pittsford defeated Thomas 11-7 and Fairport took Penfield 14-10. Schroeder was a 12-10 winner over host R-H. Other winners in the 17 game schedule today were Ath/Ody, Pal-Mac, Wayne, Mynderse, Gananda, Avon, Spencerport, Canandaigua, Churchville-Chili, Geneva and Medina (Section 6).

 -- Victor came back from a 3-1 deficit and scored a run of five unanswered goals to take a 7-6 victory over the visiting Eagles from Irondequoit tonight.

After a very long first quarter, Victor scored the first goal of the game at 3:41 when Roy Young scored the first of his four goals in the game on a drive from the right wing. The Eagles quickly returned with an unassisted goal at 2:21 by senior middie Ben Brooks who scored the first of his four goals. As he subbed onto the field he received the ball at midfield and ran it straight in for the goal. The teams remained tied at 1-1 at the end of the first quarter.

Irondequoit scored the first two goals of the second quarter. The first, at 10:11, was on an intercepted clearing pass by the Blue Devils. Senior attackman Sam Melvin caught a feed from senior attackman Danny Pignato for the goal. The second goal, scored at 7:43 was by Brooks, running straight in from the top right. Victor started their five goal run at 6:19 when senior attackman Kyle Haslinger circled the back of the goal and scored with an under-hand shot after breaking the goal line extended. Less than a minute later sophomore midfielder Sam Byassee tied the game at 3-3 when he moved from transition straight to the goal for a shot that bounced past Irondequoit goalie Alex Shoemaker. With just over four minutes left in the half, senior attackman Jordon Hodder sent the ball from top right to Young right wing for a quick shot and score. The Blue Devils led 4-3 at the half.

There was only one goal in the third quarter. With just 4.1 second left, Haslinger scored his second goal after driving hard from behind the goal, beating his defenseman and shooting into the low outside corner. Victor led 5-3 after three quarters.

Another goal by Young at the top of the last quarter gave Victor a 6-3 lead. Senior midfielder Reyluis Gutierrez brought the ball down from midfield and at around the twenty-five yard line sent the ball to Young on the high crease. Young turned and shot for the score.

With time running out, the Eagles made a strong come-back attempt. Brooks started things off with an unassisted goal at 5:10 on a drive from the high right wing. There was a strong feeling of momentum shift with the Eagle's goal, but it was cut short at 3:04 with an unassisted goal by Hodder which gave the blue Devils a 7-4 advantage.

Irondequoit saved its best play for the last minute of the game, and nearly took the game to a tie. With 0:44 left on the clock Pignato, on the crease, scored on a feed from Raymond Shalvoy. On the ensuing face off Brooks scored on a hard underhand shot from outside to take the score to 7-6. Although it felt like a long twenty seconds, the Eagles could not get another shot on cage and they had to watch as the Victor players raced onto to the field to celebrate with their goalie, Troy Dowdle who ended the game with 13s (68%).

-- In one of the close contests of the day, Hilton defeated Greece Arcadia/Olympia 8-6. The Cadets scored four goals to finish the first and start the second quarter to help secure their victory. Hilton's Harald Juergens scored the opening goal (unassisted) only 0:46 into the contest. Greece added the next two goals and with 3:07 took their first lead with an unassisted goal by Bryan Collister. Hilton tied the game with 0:38 remaining and took the lead back with 0:11 in the first quarter with goals from Shawn Kimble and Derek Richards. With his goal, Richards become the highest point scorer in Hilton history with 52g-84a (136 points). Hilton led 3-2 going into the second quarter.

The Cadets scored the first two goals with points from Justin Goodrich and Alex Milliken. The largest disparity of the contest (three goals) only lasted for 0:36. Greece's Connor May scored the first of his 2g-1a to bring the game within two. Sergio Rosado scored the first of his two goals followed by May's second to tie the game with 0:03 remaining in the half. The game was 5-5 at halftime.

Hilton scored the only two goals in the third quarter and held Greece scoreless for the first 13:20 of the second half. Rosado scored during man-up for the last Lightning goal (assisted by May). Dante Giordano scored the last goal of the game (assisted by Richards) with 9:12 remaining in the fourth quarter. In the cage for Hilton, Jarod Kimble finished with nine saves. Juergens led his team with eight ground balls. Ricky Cocilova (4), Goodrich (3), Richard (3), Jared Harris (3) and Brian Mangene (3) added to the ground ball count for the Cadets. For Greece, Josh Hovey finished with 18 saves.

 -- Webster Schroeder scored the first three goals of the game and held off an impressive late attempt by Rush-Henrietta to defeat the Royal Comets 12-10. The Warriors' Austin Ocwieja scored the opening goal unassisted to start off the game. Marco DeBole and Kenny Nelson each added goals for Schroeder and with 9:39 remaining in the second quarter the Warriors were in solid control. The first R-H goal was scored 14:33 into the contest when Chauncey Scissum scored on an pass from Nick Binnert. Kenny Nelson found Mike Trass for the next Webster goal. R-H added two goals in quick succession to bring the game within a single goal. Nick Binnert assisted Nick Lenhard twice within 20 seconds to bring the game to 4-3. The final goal of the half was scored by Webster with DeBole assisting David Lehman. Schroeder led 5-3 going into halftime.

In the third quarter the teams trading goals back and forth. A highlight of the quarter came with a Royal Comet goal with 3:49 remaining in the quarter. Attackman Joseph LaRocca fed the crease and Binnert grabbed the ball and redirected it while midair into the corner for an impressive display of athleticism. There was some question about his landing (in the crease or not) but the goal was credited by the officials. The score ended 9-6 after three quarters.

The fourth quarter was a story of halves. Schroeder dominated in the beginning of the quarter with three straight goals. Trass scored the first and Joe Saltrelli scored the next two to give the Warriors a six goal lead and apparent control of the game. However, R-H had bounced back. With 6:07, Matt Hair scored on an outside bounce shot that hit the inside of the top pipe. Thirty seconds later Binnert took nearly the same shot with a high bounce shot that got past the Warrior goalie, Cooper Lee. On the next face-off the Royal Comets went down fast again and scored on a fast break. Face-off midfielder Mike Loucks picked up his own ground ball and dumped the ball to Brad Schillinger for the goal. After Schillinger scored, he was hit by a Warrior and a flag was thrown. The Royal Comets got the ball back and scored in another 13 seconds. The Royal Comets added four goals in less than 53 seconds.

On the next face-off, Webster Coach McGurk took no chances and called a time out as soon as his player had the ball near his stick. After the time-out, the Warriors took the ball down and went into a hard stall. With 3:57 remaining, the officials signaled a stall warning. The Warriors kept the ball moving until 3:00 when it was knocked out of the box. However, the Royal Comets had a loose ball push and the Warriors kept the ball. After stepping into the box, the Warriors were immediately pushed out and R-H received the ball. A long up field pass failed and Webster returned to their offensive end of the field. This time they barely took any time off the clock before R-H caused a turnover with 2:31 remaining. After an outlet pass over the midfield line Coach DeWald called a timeout. The Royal Comets worked the ball around but could not get a shot past the defense. The Warriors regained the ball and ran out the game for the remaining time.

In the cage for Schroeder, Cooper Lee finished with four saves. Face off long-stick Brett Zilliox finished with a team leading 11 ground balls. Joe Saltrelli finished with seven and Trass finished with four for the Warriors. For R-H, McKenzie Spooner finished with 14 saves.

-- Pittsford scored the first three goals and although Thomas kept the game competitive, the Panthers never trailed in their 11-7 win. The Panthers opened up the scoring with goals from Stephen Quinzi and Albie DiPasquale. DiPasquale and midfielder Brandon Barker each finished with 4g for the Panthers. Quinzi finished with a team leading 2g-3a. Thomas scored their first goal of the game in extra-man with John Hill assisting Jake Giudice with 5:13 remaining in the opening quarter. Pittsford led 3-1 at the close of the first.

Thomas scored the first goal of the second to pull within a single goal with an unassisted goal from Kevin Hill. Hill finished with 2g-1a. Barker scored his first goal to keep the Panthers in the lead. Two minutes later, during another man-up, Hill scored again. Overall, Thomas scored four of their goals during man-up (on five attempts). With 7:42 remaining in the first half the game was within one goal (4-3 Pittsford). The Panthers scored the next three going into the third quarter. The game continued with the teams trading goals and the Panthers adding an additional goal here and there for the remainder of the game.

Leading in scoring for Thomas was Giudice with 3g-1a. In the cage for Thomas, John Bezek finished with five saves. Midfielder Justin Bird finished 62% at the face off draw and a team leading eight ground balls. In the cage for Pittsford, Kevin Maguire finished with 10 saves (59%). Midfielder Steven Ricci finished with a team leading five ground balls for the Panthers.

--  Game NOTE:The Titans honored the West Webster Fire Department and the memory of Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka before the game. A color guard presented the flags during the national anthem and a special shirt was designed by senior goals Alex Gulisano. The Titans have been wearing a WWFD decal on their helmets this season.
