Saturday: Gananda over Waterloo 9-8 and Many Mismatches Today

There were 12 games played on Saturday and the vast majority were mismatches. Gananda and Waterloo, however, played a close one which saw the Blue Panthers winning 9-8. Other winners included Livonia, Thomas, Penn Yan, Churchville-Chili, Hilton, Geneva, Bloomfield-Honeoye, HF-L. Fairport traveled to Ithaca and lost to Ithaca 12-5.

-- Gananda scored four of the last six goals to defeat Waterloo, 9-8. The game was tied at the first six intervals before Gananda pulled away with three unanswered goals in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Defenseman Dylan Joy was a key part of the Blue Panther win. He finished with 16 ground balls. Leading the scoring were attackman Colin Brillian (3g) and midfielder Kyler Friesner (2g-1a).

Waterloo scored the first goal with an unassisted goal by Brenn Solomon less than one minute into regulation. Thirty seconds later Gananda tied the game with Zach Binggeli's unassisted goal. The game went back and forth before the man-up team for Gananda took their first lead of the game. Kyler Friesner assisted Brillian for the go ahead goal. Two minutes later Mike Wright scored to tie the game for the second time (also unassisted). The score was tied 2-2 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Gananda took the lead again with Zach Rink's unassisted goal. Waterloo kept the game tied with a man-up goal from Tim Wright. The game remained tied until 1:24 remaining in the game when Mike Wright scored a go ahead goal for the Indians. The final shot of the quarter tied the game with Nick Rapp assisting Brillian for his second goal. The score was still tied (4-4) at the half. The teams traded two more pair of goals before Gananda's streak.

Waterloo scored two goals late in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to retake the lead. Waterloo's final goal was scored with 4:13 remaining. Tim Wright assisted Jaymin Mateo for the Indians. In the cage for the Blue Panthers, Brandon Smith finished with nine saves. For Waterloo, Mark Campbell finished with 10 saves.
