Saturday: Fairport Defeats West Genesee in OT
 - 

There were lots of games played in an around Section Five today. The day started with Mynderse beating Waterloo 8-6 and ended with an overtime win for Fairport, who defeated West Genesee 9-8. In between there were outmatched wins by Livonia, Geneva, Thomas, Penfield, Schroeder, Thunder and Canandaigua. Churchville-Chili had a close 8-7 win over Victor and Penn Yan lost a close one to Carthage.

--   Greece Athena/Odyssey scored the first six goals of the contest in their 12-5 win over Brockport. The Thunder won the first three quarters with the Blue Devils winning the final quarter 2-1. Anthony Merola led in scoring with 6g-1a for Greece. Merola, who passed 100 career goals in his last contest, improves his season total to 15 goals. Attackman Anthony Crawford finished with 3g-1a and midfielder Jamie Trimboli finished with 2a. In the cage, Hunter Merola finished with seven saves (58%). --   Penn Yan traveled to Watertown IHC to face Carthage (Section III) in their annual Wounded Warrior Classic. The Comets came out ahead and defeated the Mustangs 6-4. Carthage took the early lead and never gave it up.

The first two goals of the game were scored by the Comets before Penn Yan scored during extra-man late in the quarter. Carthage led 2-1 going into the second quarter. In the second quarter, both teams stepped up their defense and neither team added points. In the third quarter, Carthage expanded their lead by scoring the first two goals. Penn Yan added the last two goals of the quarter to keep the game within a single goal. For the last quarter of the game, Carthage scored the opening two goals of the quarter to increase their lead to 6-3. The Mustangs scored the final goal of the game late in the quarter.
