With most teams taking the weekend off, there were only three games scheduled for today. Penn Yan hosted HF-L and junior goalie Brandon Maciejewski earned a rare shutout as the Mustangs won 18-0. Canandaigua broke a 3-3 tie with Churchville-Chili at halftime and won their game at Hobart College 10-4. Penfield traveled to West Genesee where the Wildcats won 5-3.

--  Penn Yan opened their 2013 campaign with a rare 18-0 shutout as they hosted Honeoye Falls-Lima this afternoon. The Mustangs, playing like they were at the end of the season rather than the beginning, moved the offensive ball with precision and accuracy. The first few goals were each produced with three quick passes and from two different offensive setups.

The "usual stars" of Bradley Voigt (3g-4a), Rion Davison (4g-2a) and Ryan Maciejewski (3g-2a) were joined by "newcomer" Andrew Perl, who, in his first varsity game added 4g-1a. Freshman face off specialist, Austin Fingar won ninety percent of his draws (9/10). The Mustang defense held the Cougars to ten shots in the game and the five that were on cage were saved by junior goalie Brandon Maciejewski.

Penn Yan will leave for the "annual" trip to West Point tomorrow afternoon. After attending a West Point practice session and a tour of the Academy, they will play Lakeland/Panas (Section 1) on Tuesday afternoon. HF-L will travel to Aquinas on Thursday for their next game.

-- What started out as a close game ended with Canandaigua in control as the Braves defeated Churchville-Chili 10-4, at Hobart College this afternoon. Although the Saints had much of the ball time in the first quarter, Canandaigua ended with a 2-0 lead on goals by junior attackman Brian Feldman (assisted by sophomore attackman Connor Hulme) and senior middie Dan Lacrosse (unassisted). Canandaigua added a third goal early in the second quarter as Feldman scored an unassisted goal. But the Saints came back with three unanswered goals to finish the half with the teams tied at 3-3. Sophomore midfielder Cameron Shipley, junior midfielder Trevor Hodgins and junior midfielder Jake Mortier each scored unassisted goals for C-C.

The second half, however, was a different story as the Braves scored seven unanswered goals including four in the third and three more in the fourth. Junior attackman Eric Munn started it off for CA with two unassisted goals and later added another. LaCrosse added a goal and two more assists, Hulme scored another and freshman attackman Ben Smith-Wilcox scored his first varsity goal for Canandaigua.

Junior goalie Mike Yehl made fourteen saves for Churchville-Chili (58%) while senior goalie Michael Cuciti made eight saves (73%) for Canandaigua. Junior Jon Gelinas played the last four minutes in the cage for Canandaigua and recorded one save (50%).

Next up for Canandaigua is Geneva on Tuesday. Churchville-Chili travels to Webster Thomas on Tuesday.

-- For the third game in a row, Penfield started their game leading their opponents only to lose at the end of the game. Today they traveled to the Syracuse area to play West Genesee. Junior midfielder Brian Wall scored the first goal for the Patriots (assisted by senior attackman Jonathan Spaan). It was the only score in the quarter. The Wildcats tied the game early in the second quarter, but goals by Wall (unassisted) and junior middie Mitch Standera (assisted by senior midfielder Connor Russell) gave the Patriots a 3-1 lead at half time.

After the break, however, it was all West Genesee as they held Penfield scoreless while scoring one goal in the third and three more in the fourth quarter. Penfield face off specialist Connor Russell won eight of nine face offs (82%) and junior goalie Liam Guiton recorded fourteen saves (74%) for the Patriots.

Penfield will travel to Section 11 on Long Island for the spring break, playing Comsewogue on Wednesday and Sachem-North on Friday. West Genesee hosts Fayetteville-Manlius on Tuesday.
