There were nine games played in the section today. Canandaigua scored five goals late in their game to defeat Penfield 7-5. Head Coach Andrew Whipple was the "Whipple-Winner" as Pittsford defeated his brother's team from Irondequoit 7-2. Brighton beat Schroeder 8-7 and Victor beat Rush-Henrietta 17-11. The other winners were Wayne, Gananda, Livonia, Gates Chili and Hilton.

-- Canandaigua scored the last five goals of the game (four during man-up situations) to defeat Penfield 7-5 this afternoon at Evans Field. This is the second game in a row that the Patriots lost their lead in the fourth quarter. The game was a full of scoring runs with Penfield scoring all five of their goals in succession. Leading the charge for Canandaigua were freshman midfielder Mitchell Schaefer (3g) and senior midfielder Ben Northrup (3a).

Senior Dan LaCrosse scored the first goal of the game unassisted late in the first quarter. Schaefer, who also faced-off for the Braves, scored 0:06 later after picking up his own ground ball and going straight to the cage. Schaefer finished 7/14 (50%) at the draw. Four of his seven losses were technical losses. The first quarter ended with Canandaigua leading 2-0. Penfield came out strong in the second quarter, scoring four straight goals. Connor Russell and Jonathan Spaan each scored two goals. Russell's were both unassisted while Spaan's were assisted by Brian Wall and Mitch Standera. Halftime saw the Patriots leading 4-2.

Penfield's final goal of the game came with 9:18 remaining in the third quarter with Standera assisting Spaan once more. Canandaigua only scored one goal before the conclusion of the third quarter with Connor Hulme scoring (assisted by Dan LaCrosse). Penfield continued to lead 5-3 after three quarters. Three minutes into the final quarter and the Braves brought the game to within one goal with LaCrosse assisting Feldman. 0:18 later and the Braves tied the game. Northrup assisted Schaefer after winning the man-up face-off. Feldman scored the go ahead goal two minutes later and, once again during extra-man. The Patriots were held scoreless for over 21 minutes. They had three chances at the goal in the fourth quarter, but could not connect. The final goal was also scored during man-up with Schaefer scoring unassisted.

In the cage for Penfield, Liam Guiton finished with 12 saves (63%). Defenseman Charlie Cummins finished with a team leading six ground balls. For the Braves, Michael Cuciti finished with 10 saves (66%).

-- Although the game was close in the beginning, Pittsford scored the last five goals of the contest to defeat Irondequoit 7-2. The Eagles were held scoreless for 29:00 minutes. One of the keys to the Panther victory came from sophomore goalie Kevin Maguire. He came through with nine saves in the first half, including seven in the second quarter. He finished the game with 12 total saves (86%). Senior midfielder Steven Ricci also made a big contribution winning 85% of the face off draws (11/13) and finishing with a team leading eight ground balls.

The first goal of the game began with a ground ball from Andrew Rodenhouse at the midfield line. He kept the ball from going over the midfield line and retained possession for the Panthers. Rodenhouse drove down the right side and dumped the ball to Brandon Barker across the crease for the open shot. Two minutes later Irondequoit tied the game when Daniel Doktor drove to the cage and made a cross crease feed to Danny Pignato.

Pittsford took the lead once again with a goal in the closing seconds of the opening quarter. Irondequoit had the ball as time was counting down. The officials signaled a stall warning, but the Eagles couldn't keep the ball in the box. Defenseman Cameron Pincus cleared the ball for the Panthers and gave it to attackman Stephen Quinzi. He drove one-on-one and scored an unassisted goal with 0:04 remaining on the clock. The Panthers led 2-1 at the close of the quarter.

Irondequoit scored the only goal of the second quarter and tied the game at 2-2. Their goal came from a failed clear by the Panthers. Doktor drove to the cage and passed the ball off to Joel Roemer for an outside high rip. The half ended with the score tied 2-2.

The turning point of the game came one minute into the third quarter. Pittsford defenseman Nick Panara took the ball from Doktor after Irondequoit won the opening face off. Greg Weyl picked up the loose ball and worked it up the field to Rodenhouse. Rodenhouse ran to the cage and dumped the ball to Albie DiPasquale for the first of his 3g-2a. The third quarter ended with Pittsford leading 3-2. In the final quarter, the Panthers scored four unanswered goals and continued to hold the Eagles scoreless. No report from Irondequoit.

-- Although the game began close in the opening quarter, Gates Chili scored the first ten goals spanning the second, third and fourth quarters in their 15-2 win over Eastridge. In the opening quarter, Gates Chili took ten shots with four on cage. Junior goalie Chris Doktor saved all four shots on cage in the first quarter and finished the game with eleven total saves. Eastridge only had three shots in the first quarter with Dylan Dix making one save for Gates Chili (he finished with four saves total).

Leading the scoring for Gates Chili was midfielder Joe Corona with 1g-6a. Attackman Phil Ruf added 5g-1a for the Spartans. Corona finished 7/10 at the face off with a team leading nine ground balls. Defensive midfielder Casey Pritchard finished with eight ground balls. Doktor led the Lancers in ground balls with four.

-- Wayne scored the first seven goals on their way to a 15-2 win over Batavia. The Eagles were led in scoring by junior attackman Andrew Jenkins with 2g-3a. Sophomore midfielder Chris Ecker set a new school record with 4g in a single contest. Senior attackman Josh Bowman and junior attackman Tim Oddi finished with 2g-2a each. Overall, ten different Eagles scored points in the contest. In the cage for Wayne, junior goaltender Justin Townsend finished with 6 saves (75%). Batavia's goals were scored by senior midfielders Tyler Kuhn and Zac Bromley with an assist from senior attackman Dennis Alton. In the cage, sophomore goalie Tristan Flint recorded seven saves.

-- Livonia traveled to Waterloo and defeated the Indians 17-7. Livonia brought up 5 JV players due to Spring Break and all five played into the game. Three of them recorded stats with defenseman Bobby Krause picking up one ground ball, midfielder Zach Bishopp scoring one goal and goalie John Stockslader recording six saves.

Livonia scored the first six goals of the game and held the Indians scoreless until the second quarter. The opening goal of the game was scored by Mitchell Kinney who finished with 4g for the Bulldogs. Leading the scoring for Livonia were Josh Wester (3g-4a) and Derek Bishopp (6g-1a). D. Bishopp finished with 68% at the face off wins (13/18) and a team leading 16 ground balls. Kinney finished with five ground balls and Dustin Ayers finished with four.

Senior Tim Wright scored 3g-2a for the Indians. Waterloo goalies, Aaron Smith and Mark Campbell split halves in the cage. Smith played the first half and recorded four saves and Campbell finished the game with six saves.

-- Hilton scored the opening goal with 10:09 remaining in the first quarter when senior midfielder Derek Richards (Mercyhurst) fed sophomore attackman Shawn Kimble. The Cadets never trailed in their 16-8 win over Spencerport. 0:40 later Spencerport tied the game with a man-up goal from senior attackman Matt Kaser (Binghamton). That was the closest Spencerport was able to get as Hilton scored the next eleven goals before the end of the first half.

The Cadets fielded three goalies in their win. Sophomore Jarod Kimble started the game and recorded two saves in the first half. Senior Mark Detroia took over for the second half and recorded three saves. Junior Tyler Cusse played the final three minutes of the game and recorded one save. For the Rangers, freshman Connor MacKenzie played the entire game and recorded thirteen saves.

Leading in scoring for Hilton was senior midfielder Dante Giordano with 5g-2a. Richards and Kimble both finished with 3g-3a for the Cadets. Richards and junior middie Harald Juergens finished with four ground balls each for Hilton. Kaser led his team with 3g-1a. He finished last season with the greatest number of points in all of Section Five (61g-49a). Junior attackman Brandon Ellis finished with 2g for the Rangers. Junior defenseman Nick Iacchetta and junior midfielder Aidan Conolly each finished with a team leading here ground balls.

-- Brighton scored the first five goals of the game and held off a second quarter advance by Schroeder to win 8-7. The game saw scoring streaks with Schroeder responding to the opening Baron scoring with a streak of four of their own. Brighton led 5-4 late in the second quarter when they added three more goals spanning into the third quarter. Schroeder scored the final three goals of the game and held Brighton scoreless for 14:45, but could not re-tie the game.

Brighton senior midfielder Casey Kopp scored the first two goals for the Barons (both unassisted). Senior attackman Robert Haggerty scored the first of his three goals with 5:23 remaining in the opening quarter. Seniors Alex Ballatori and Greg Shinaman rounded out the opening scoring salvo for the Barons. Schroeder scored their first goal with only 0:11 remaining in the opening quarter when senior middie Sig Sahli scored his unassisted goal for the Warriors. Brighton led 5-1 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Schroder scored three straight before Brighton scored in the final 0:17 seconds of the half. Junior attackman Mike Trass scored (assisted by Jack Donnelly). Sahli added his second goal during an extra-man opportunity with 6:52 remaining in the first half. The fourth Schroeder goal was scored when senior attackman Kenny Nelson fed Mike Austin. Kopp scored his third goal for the Barons just before the close of the first half to give Brighton the 6-4 lead going into halftime.

Brighton continued their scoring drive with the only two goals in the third quarter. Haggerty scored both goals for the Barons with Ballatori assisting on the second goal. Entering the final quarter, Brighton held a four goal lead (8-4) and although the Warriors tried hard to come back the lead was too much. Austin, Sahli and junior defensive middie Nick Gaglio scored for Webster. The final goal of the contest was scored with 5:20 remaining. Webster had three more shots on the cage after the last goal, but could not convert.

In the cage for Schroeder, Willie Klan finished with seven saves. Senior defenseman Mike Liberti and junior midfielder Joe Saltrelli finished with three ground balls each to lead the Warriors. For Brighton, junior goalie Andy Wong finished with two saves between the pipes.
