November 21, 2012 - Yesterday Hilton celebrated their National Letter of Intent signing seniors that included senior attackman Derek Richards, who will attend Mercyhurst University next fall.
After looking at a number of schools, Richards choose the Lakers after meeting with Coach Chris Ryan. Richards hopes that he can be part of another NCCA Division II Championship during his four years at Mercyhurst.
Richards started playing with the Hilton Varsity team in his freshman year and during his time has amassed one hundred points as he starts his final year with the Cadets. He was named to the Monroe County (MC-2) second team in his sophomore year and was named to the MC-3 first team last year.
Before he leaves for Erie, Pennsylvania he has one more year at Hilton where he hopes to take the Cadets to their best year yet.
Off season he has played on the rising sophomore, junior and senior teams for the Blaze Lacrosse Club. He was a member of the Nike Rising Senior team and was a Brine All-American in 2012. He played for the Rochester team who won the Brine National All-American Lacrosse National Classic. As a result, he earned the right to represent the United States and compete for the "Brogden Cup" which will be played against the Canadian team from Ontario in January 2013.
