-- Victor kept the game close for the first quarter, but it wasn't enough to stop Brighton who won 11-7, after scoring seven out of eight goals in a row spanning the second and third quarters. Victor's offensive did a good job of trying to keep pace with Brighton but their defense could not stop them. When their offense got them closer, their defense had trouble keeping the game close. Brighton's Jordan Carey stepped up between the pipes, finishing with 11 saves (61%). He made a number of impressive saves early in the game to keep Victor from gaining momentum.
Brighton scored the first two goals. Alex Lebowitz had the opener with a feed from behind the cage by Kurt Minges. Two minutes later and Brighton struck again. Steven Cregan drove from the top of the restraining line and dumped the ball into Alex Ballatori on the crease for the goal. Victor came back and scored the next two goals before the quarter expired. Kyle Benwitz scored the first goal (with an assist from John Maloney) with 8:13 remaining. It wasn't until the final thirty seconds that Victor tied the game. In between the two goals, Carey recorded five saves. Roy Young scored for the Blue Devils (unassisted) during man-up to tie the game 2-2 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Victor scored the first goal to take their only lead of the game. Connor Kimball stepped up from behind the cage and hit Maloney as he cut the crease for the goal. Victor held their lead for two minutes before Minges and Cregan hooked up Brighton's third goal. Brighton kept scoring, adding another two goals before halftime. Lebowitz scored unassisted with a drive from the top and Wool scored after receiving a pass from Lebowitz. Brighton led 5-3 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Barons added five goals and held the Blue Devils to only two. The stretch of goals from the end of the second and beginning of the third were just too much for Victor to come back from. Brighton's Casey Kopp scored three goals in the third quarter (finishing the game with 4g-1a). Young and D'Angelo scored the two goals for Victor. Brighton led 10-5 going into the final quarter.
Victor scored the first two goals of the quarter and tried to gain momentum. Brighton scored their final goal with 4:04 remaining and stalled the ball to take all the wind out of the sails of Victor. The Blue Devils also had trouble clearing in the fourth quarter (2/8). Kopp added the final goal for Brighton before the stall went on and Brighton ran out the clock.
In the cage for Victor, Steve Basile finished with 11 saves (50%). For Brighton, Max Brauer took all 21 face-offs and won 16 (76%). Brauer also co-led with Steven Cregan in ground balls with seven. Dan Pierce added four to the count. For Victor, Kimball led with six. Maloney and D'Angelo added five each.
