Lacrosse in New York Section Five |
Welcome to SportsFive Newsletters,
The regular season is now in the record books. It's gone by so quickly this year. Two hundred and ninety-five games were played and reported on the site. Nine hundred and eight players and their stats recorded in our hundred of thousands of record databases and tens of thousands of game day images were shot by a handful of dedicated photographers
Now, though, it's tournament time. Eleven out bracket games will be followed by the quarter finals on Thursday (Class B) and Friday (Classes A and C). The semi finals are a week from Tuesday and the Finals will be at St. John Fisher College on Friday, June 4th.
Enjoy the great weather and wonderful competition this week - Until Next Time,
The SportsFive Team |

-- TOURNAMENT SSEDING ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
The tournament seeding is done and the brackets are set as the 2010 Section Five tournament starts with out bracket games on Tuesday.
There were ties galore including two in Class B and two in Class C that were broken using the tie breaking procedures.

Schroeder takes #5 and Greece Thunder (Ath/Ody) comes in at #6. Churchville-Chili is in at #7 and Gates Chili placed #8. Hilton is the #9 seed and Greece Lightning (#9) fills out the bracket. Gates Chili will host Hilton and Churchville-Chili will host Greece Lightning is the first round games on Tuesday.
In Class B, Canandaigua is the top seed by far with Thomas in #2. Brighton and McQuaid Jesuit tied and Brighton takes the third seed on the basis of more wins (15-1 vs 12-4 - "Criteria #2"). The Irondequoit Eagles are in #5. Victor and HF-L tied and Victor (#6) breaks the tie on the basis of a "head-to-Head" win against the Cougars (11-8). Class C is the largest bracket, with fifteen teams entered. The Section Five tournaments are all "open" this year; all teams play. For the first time in many years, the top seed is not Penn Yan. Aquinas takes the top seed and is the only team that does not have an out bracket game on Tuesday. Penn Yan (#2) won out in a tie with Geneva (#3) on the basis of a "Head-to Head" win over the Panthers (7-6). Penn Yan will play Bishop Kearney on Wednesday night. Bloomfield-Honeoye tied with Midlakes and as they each won a game against each other during regular play, the Pride wins #4 on the basis for more wins (13-3 vs 12-4). Pal-Mac takes #6, Livonia #7 and Bath-Haverling #8. East Rochester is seeded #9, Batavia $10, Mynderse #11 and Waterloo #12. Newark, Marcus WHitman and Bishop Kearney fill out the Class C bracket.

-- UPDATING THE PLAYER PROFILES |
The "Player Profile" area contains individual records for current and past players from Section Five. The area has become some of the most visited pages of the site both in-season and off season.

Also, you must either own the picture or have the rights to use it. We cannot post a picture that is owned by a third party.

-- SportsFive Needs Sponsors for Empire State Games Coverage |
The Empire State Games are back this summer after a one year absence and SportsFive is planning to provide extensive coverage of the games which will be run in Buffalo from July 21st to 25th.
Last year's games, scheduled for the Hudson Valley, were cancelled due to funding issues last summer but are back and will be held in venues around Buffalo this July. SportsFive has a long history of providing the only full coverage of the summer games.
"We hope to secure sponsorship again this year so that we can provide the coverage," said Paul Wilson. "Our 2008 coverage from Binghamton was viewed by thousands of people and still gets hits today. The same is true of the 2007 games from Hudson Valley. We hope we can provide the same level of detail, and add, perhaps, some new feature."
SportsFive is hoping to find a couple of companies to help with the cost. Those sponsorships, along with donations, will ensure that the games will be well documented. Interested parties should contact Coach Wilson.
