Monday: Out Bracket Games
 - 

Ten out bracket games were played today as the 2014 Section Five Tournaments began play.Only one team beat the seeds as #10 Bath beat #7 Marcus Whitman 15-6. Also in Class C, Livonia beat Midlakes, Geneva beat Mynderse and Waterloo beat Newark. In Class B McQuaid beat Brighton 10-8, Spencerport beat Batavia-Attica, Irondequoit beat Eastridge and HF-L beat Brockport. In Class A, Lightning beat Gates Chili and Schroeder beat Thunder.

Up next are the quarter finals where Fairport will play Lightning, Thomas will play Hilton, Pittsford will take on Schroeder and Penfield will play Rush-Henrietta. In Class be Victor will see McQuaid Jesuit, Wayne will play Spencerport, Canandaigua will face Irondequoit and Churchville-Chili will host HF-L. In Class C, Penn Yan will face Livonia, Aquinas will play Geneva, Pal-Mac will play Bath and Gananda will see Waterloo. Brackets are available on the Tournament Page.

Brighton at McQuaid

--  McQuaid Jesuit scored six unanswered goals and held Brighton scoreless for 15:22 (spanning the end of the second, all of the third and half the fourth quarters) in their 10-8 win. The Knights were trailing by three going into halftime before scoring four in the third quarter and the first two of the final quarter. The Barons scored the final goal of the game but could not catch up in the final minutes.

McQuaid Jesuit’s Joe Hayes scored the opening goal from a fast break shortly after the release of a Brighton penalty. Hayes finished with five goals for the Barons. The next two goals were scored by Brighton with Will Bender assisting Brett Randall on the first goal and then scoring the second unassisted. Bender finished with 2g-2a for the Barons. Hayes` second goal kept the game tied after the first quarter. Brighton stepped it up the in second quarter. the Barons added five goals and held the Knights to only two. Brady McDermott, Max Coke (2), Randall and Bender scored the Brighton. Hayes scored his third and Jarrett Cook scored his first goal of the game.

Jake Gleason and Hayes scored two each in the six goal run with Shawn Nally and Cook scoring the remaining two goals. The final goal came from Coke.

In the cage for Brighton, Andy Wong finished at 50% with 10s/10ga. Face-off midfielder Will Bender finished with eight ground balls and was 2/3 at the draw. Parker Finestone (2/4) and Ahmad Bakrin (2/6) rounded out the face-offs for Brighton. The Knights split their goalie time at the half. Nick Angelo played the second half and allowed a single goal with 3 saves. Gianmarco Coelho played the first half and accumulated three saves. return to top
